BROCKTON——Minnie (Marques) Fernandes, 97, a resident of Brockton for the past 65 years, died Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Manuel Fernandes for 77 years.

Born in Brockton, a daughter of the late Joseph and Otiquia (Sequeria) Marques, she was raised and educated in Bridgewater.

In 1958, Minnie along with her husband Manny founded Fernandes Lumber and Home Center of Depot Street (Rte.123) in Easton, which she operated for many years until her retirement and which is now owned and operated by her family.

A founding member and communicant of the Holy Cross Church in Easton, Minnie was an active volunteer with the Easton Lions Club.

Minnie's hobbies included knitting, crocheting, word search and reading. Most important to Minnie was her devotion to her late husband Manuel and her cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Minnie is survived by her children, Barbara Hopkins and her husband Earl of North Conway, NH., Diana Farrell and her husband Thomas of Mansfield and Kenneth Fernandes and his wife Linda of Easton; also survived by 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Jeana Fernandes.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in Kane Funeral Home and Cremation Services 605 Washington Street (Rte.138) Easton, followed by a funeral Mass in the Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase Street, Easton, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Bridgewater.
