Desmond was a beloved family member. Always socially awkward, but affectionate and intelligent, Desmond loved his companions: Dublin, Oliver, and Rupert, and his mentor Eli, who passed away when Desmond was still young. Des loved guacamole, solving puzzles, and making nests out of plastic bags. Grocery day was the best. He would find a bag that piqued his interest, take it up in his mouth, and hop away, bounding up three ladders, bag dragging behind him, sometimes tripping over it, and stuff it into his food bowl or in his igloo. He would press it up against the walls with his tiny perfect hands and then sit back and admire the fruits of his efforts. Desmond loved when I spoke or sang to him, and he would brux and boggle any time the song "Girls/Girls/Boys" by Panic! at the Disco came on. He would greet me when I came home from a long day at work, look at me with those big eyes, and snuggle up as close to me as he could. He greatly enjoyed sitting under a blanket on my lap while we watched movies together.

Desmond may have been little, but the impact he had on my life was great, and he is dearly missed.
